Why do americans think they are better than anyone else?

They seem to think that their country is better than any other and yet their government has starated wars (in I think 20 countries) when the country had not been do anything to them. And they look at forigners like they are like a intruder or somebody who is less fortunate. My mother is American but I really dont like people who do that.
